I was definitely excited at the response to my first Favorite Tweets (and Blog Posts) post and have taken some of the things that I wish I could have done better, or differently, into account this time around. This is a fun opportunity to try some different things with the Scorch blog and to use [...]

Imo’s Pizza – The Store Launch Beyond Compare
by Chris Reimer on June 1, 2010 in The Blog
When a St. Louisan thinks of St. Louis-style pizza, the first and possibly only thing that comes to mind is Imo’s Pizza. Since Ed and Marge Imo opened their first location in 1964 at Thurman and Shaw in South St. Louis, they have been putting Provel cheese on a cracker-like crust and cutting it into squares. They created their own food genre – The Square Beyond Compare, as the tagline goes – not too bad!
With over 80 locations and a long history, Imo’s has largely been able to stave off St. Louis-style competitors like Elicia’s, Cecil Whittakers, and several newcomers like Louie’s and St. Louis Pizza & Wings. While these others have each been able to carve out a nice business for themselves, Imo’s owns the hearts and minds of St. Louis-style pizza lovers. This is the pizza that St. Louis ex-pats have to get when they roll through town. In fact, you can even have Imo’s shipped to you, anywhere in the country. Not many restaurants can claim such a rabid following.
However, it is worth noting that competition is ratcheting up. The dominant position that Imo’s has held for so many years is under assault…
Merb’s Candies’ 2009/2010 Outdoor Campaign
by Chris Buehler on March 15, 2010 in The Work
Merb’s Candies challenged us to come up with a way to showcase their famous Bionic apples online. Somewhere in the discussion the client asked if we thought creating a billboard was a good idea. Well, who wouldn’t be tempted by a 10’ tall plump caramel-coated, pecan-encrusted beauty of a Bionic apple as they zip by on the highway? We thought this was a great idea and got to work.
In less than 24 hours we had the perfect shot. A layout followed, then client approval and it was up alongside Highway 44 in 7 days. (We don’t love having to do things that fast, but everything came together beautifully!)
